Melbourne mum launches Slumber Tribe small business

A MELBOURNE mum has launched a pitch-perfect small business of indoor teepees, taking slumber parties to the next generation of happy campers.

Motivated by her eight year old daughter’s first sleepover, former fashion production manager and trends consultant, Fiona Millar, 48 from Kew, wanted to make the experience as special as possible, and was inspired by her own childhood memories.

“I grew up loving slumber parties and camping and wanted to offer Melbourne kids the chance to have a fantastic ‘glamping’ experience within the comfort and safety of their own home,” Ms Millar said.

Since launching the business, Slumber Tribe, less than four months ago, Millar has been inundated with bookings for her slumber party packages, which provide families with indoor teepees, foam mattress, bed linen, breakfast trays, lanterns, bunting and fairy lights; all of which are made and hand sourced by Millar.

“Having worked in the fashion industry, I wanted quality textiles to be at the centre of the company; there are a lot of similar sleepover-business concepts, but my vision is very different,” she said.

We purposely deliver and set up on Fridays and don’t pick up until Mondays so other siblings and the whole family can enjoy the glamping experience,” she said. “Sometimes when I arrive the parents are more excited than the kids; I think it evokes a sense of nostalgia and also because my clients don’t want something Disney Princess or tacky; they want something different and aspirational.”

Prices start from $250 for four children, including set up, delivery and laundering. (Additional $50 per extra child)
